The island’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, said that these measures are “outside the laws governing international trade,” by including last Thursday on the sanctioned list the Chinese corporations CEIEC and Beijing H&C Technologies, which Washington accuses of supplying military components and equipment through the Cuban company Duna.

“They also seek to hinder and sabotage the existing strategic, multifaceted and legitimate cooperation between China and Cuba,” the head of Cuban diplomacy said on X today.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel criticized the “new coercive measures against Cuban companies, ships and foreign companies responsible for guaranteeing essential services and goods” for “the economic and social development” of the island.

“It is part of the same design of economic asphyxiation and collective punishment to subjugate an entire nation, with deceitful and absurd justifications that neither the world nor US citizens believe,” the president said on X on Saturday.

Beijing yesterday rejected the sanctions and warned that it would adopt “all necessary measures” to protect the rights and interests of its companies.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun expressed at a press conference the Asian country’s opposition to unilateral sanctions and the extraterritorial application of US measures and affirmed that “cooperation between China and Cuba is open and transparent.”

He assured that China firmly rejects Washington’s “interference and undermining” of cooperation between the two countries and reiterated support for Cuba in defending its sovereignty and against external interference.
