Colombian presidential candidate Iván Cepeda resumed campaign activities in the country alongside his running mate Aída Quilcué after returning from an official visit to Brazil that he described as “successful.”

During his stay in Brasília, Cepeda met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Palácio do Planalto and held talks with Edinho Silva, president of the Workers’ Party.

In a message posted on social media, the candidate for the Pacto Histórico coalition reaffirmed that one of the central pillars of his campaign will be the fight against corruption. Cepeda said his position predates the electoral race and reflects a long-standing effort against “mafias, parapolitics and those who have tried to take over the state.”

I was able to convey to him the admiration and esteem he inspires in Colombia. My gratitude for this productive meeting:

He also referred to political disputes in Congress involving former president Álvaro Uribe. “It is with them that I have confronted in Congress, with their leader Álvaro Uribe, who not only tolerated corruption but under his government attempted to allow parapolitical mafias to take root in Congress and the executive branch,” he said, adding that his position on the matter is “implacable.”

During the visit, Cepeda said he obtained information about agrarian reform policies implemented in Brazil, which he considers relevant to the Colombian and international context.

If elected president, he said he would promote what he calls an “agrarian revolution” aimed at transforming rural territories into prosperous regions free from drug trafficking and illegal mining and more integrated with urban and international markets.

The proposal includes guaranteeing access to potable water in every rural municipality, ensuring electricity for basic needs, building tertiary roads to facilitate the transport of people and food, and improving conditions for agricultural production. Cepeda said these goals depend on the political organization and action of Colombia’s peasantry.

Cepeda stated that one of the main pillars of his campaign will be the fight against corruption and the defense of social rights, issues that, he indicated, are central to his political project.

The candidate of the Historical Pact seeks to consolidate his electoral support before the presidential elections scheduled for May 2026, in a campaign marked by competition among the country’s various political forces.

The trip to Brazil was the final stop in a series of international meetings held by the candidate. Cepeda also met with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

The meetings took place as Iván Cepeda intensifies campaign activities ahead of the presidential election scheduled for May 31. According to the candidate, these exchanges with regional leaders are part of a broader effort to gather policy experiences that could help shape proposals related to rural development and institutional reform in Colombia.

Cepeda has argued that international dialogue can contribute to strengthening initiatives aimed at addressing long-standing challenges in rural territories and improving governance structures across the country.
