He will participate in the 2026 Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit alongside leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron and Spanish President Pedro Sanchez.
The meeting aims to coordinate a “shared vision” for the inclusive development of artificial intelligence and reinforce political alignment following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brasilia during the 2025 G20 summit.
On Saturday, Lula and Modi will hold a private meeting to explore opportunities in renewable energy, defense, digital innovation, and strategic minerals. Lula’s agenda also includes an audience with Indian President Droupadi Murmu and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial.
The Indian government expects 250,000 attendees, including 20 heads of state and 45 ministerial delegations. Sanchez and Macron already participated, along with executives such as Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Sundar Pichai (Google).
Modi plans to use the summit to strengthen global alliances and assert India’s leadership in artificial intelligence over the next decade. However, experts warn that previous agreements have left AI companies to oversee their own operations without robust regulatory commitments.
The demand for generative AI is driving profits and stock prices for major tech companies, but it is also increasing social and environmental concerns. The summit will address job transitions, child safety, and regulation.
