Speaking during an official event, Lula stressed the need for international coordination to reduce the illegal flow of weapons into South America. He said Brazil is prepared to engage in serious dialogue with the United States on measures to curb arms smuggling routes affecting the region.

The announcement followed a bilateral meeting between Lula and U.S. President Donald Trump, where both leaders discussed border security strategies.
Brazil is also seeking to strengthen regional cooperation through the operational base established in Manaus, where police representatives from neighboring countries already work together to monitor the Amazon region.
According to the Brazilian government, one of the central goals of the plan will be to weaken the financial foundations of criminal organizations. Authorities consider dismantling the economic structures of these groups essential to reducing their operational capacity and territorial influence.
Text Reads. One of the topics we discussed in the meeting with President Trump was the fight against organized crime. We have an extraordinary Federal Police and a great deal of experience in combating drug and arms trafficking. Our customs agencies are already cooperating in this regard.
The government had previously reinforced its legal framework with the approval of the Anti-Gang Law, which grants broader powers to the Federal Police in operations against organized crime networks.
Lula also said Brazil’s experience in combating drug trafficking could contribute to cooperation efforts with other international partners interested in security coordination.
The strategy includes expanding customs surveillance and tightening controls over the movement of illicit goods across border areas. Brazilian authorities say the measures are intended to reinforce state oversight in strategic territories and consolidate a broader national security policy.
