Egypt Backs ‘Defensive’ Support for Saudi-led Yemen War: At Least 22 Civilians Killed in Air Raid East of Yemen’s Capital

According to preliminary reports, the attack caused the death of 22 civilians, mostly women and children, and left 30 injured. The number of victims is expected to rise. In addition, a cameraman for the Al Masirah television channel (controlled by the Houthis) was injured while performing his professional duties, the Houthi Ministry of Health and Environment said in a statement.

The attack took place in the village of Al Shariya, in the Bani Hashish district, east of the capital, Sana’a, and destroyed five homes inhabited by civilians, according to the department.

The spokesman for the Houthi group, Mohamed Abdulsalam, stated on his X account that Saudi Arabia “continues to attack civilians in markets and villages.”

So far, neither Saudi Arabia nor the internationally recognized Yemeni government have reacted to this information.

Yesterday, Friday, another attack caused the death of 30 people after a market in the Yemeni province of Taiz, in southwestern Yemen, was the target of bombing.

The Houthis blamed the military coalition led by Riyadh for committing this action, while the military spokesman for the internationally recognized Yemeni government, Majid al Nuzaili, accused the insurgents of launching this bombing in a disputed area between both parties.

None of these claims could be independently verified. This deadly attack comes amid an offensive in the country that has caused more than 1,700 deaths since last August, according to the latest UN figures.
