Venezuela’s Revolutionary Coalition Wins 23 Governorships

The Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole secured most of the country’s key governorships.
At the end of Sunday’s election day, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) announced that the Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole (GPPSB) coalition had won 23 of the country’s governorships, including that of the disputed Guayana Esequiba region.

After 93% of the ballots had been counted, the CNE said the GPPSB coalition secured most of the country’s key governorships, demonstrating what officials described as popular support for President Nicolas Maduro and the Bolivarian Revolution.
According to results announced by CNE Vice President Carlos Quintero, GPPSB candidate Luis Marcano Salazar won the governorship of Anzoategui state with 87% of the vote. In Apure state, candidate Wilmer Rodriguez won with 96% of the vote, and Joana Norelys Sanchez claimed victory in Aragua state.
Other victorious candidates from the ruling coalition included Yulisbeth Garcia in Bolivar state with 88%, Donald Rafael Donaire in Guarico with more than 93%, and Luis Ramon Reyes in Lara with 90%.
Incumbent governors who were reelected included Victor Clark in Falcon with more than 80%, Rafael Lacava in Carabobo with 88%, and Freddy Bernal in Tachira with 80%. Opposition politician Alberto Galindez will govern Cojedes state once again.
In this election, the Bolivarian Revolution forces also prevailed with Adan Chavez Frias securing 72% of the vote in Barinas, Luis Caldera winning in Zulia with 64%, and Marisel Velazquez winning in Nueva Esparta with 55%. The GPPSB candidates also won governorships in Merida, Miranda, and Monagas: Arnaldo Sanchez Perez, Elio Jose Serrano, and Ernesto Luna Gonzalez, respectively.
The regions of Amazonas, Delta Amacuro, and Yaracuy will be governed by Miguel Tadeo Rodriguez, Loa Tamaronis, and Leonardo Cipullo. In Portuguesa state, GPPSB candidate Antonio Cedeño won with 94% of the vote. In Sucre state, Jhoanna Carrillo Malave won with 94%. The governorships of Trujillo and La Guaira went to socialist candidates Gerardo Marquez with 92% and Jose Teran with 91%.
In the Guayana Esequiba region, Admiral Neil Villamizar won with 97% of the vote. Celebrating the electoral victory, President Maduro offered “full budgetary support” to Villamizar so that “the people of Esequibo have all the rights as people of Venezuela.”
