Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez met Colombian President Gustavo Petro today in Caracas to strengthen bilateral cooperation in commercial, energy, political, and security sectors.

The high-level gathering, held at Miraflores Palace, the official seat of the Venezuelan Government, unfolded in an atmosphere of fraternity.

Both dignitaries aim to comprehensively review the bilateral agenda, reaffirming their commitment to solidifying the bonds of brotherhood and fostering mutual growth.

This strategic first meeting between both mandataries is projected to enhance not only diplomatic relations but also practical cooperation across critical economic and security fronts, marking a pivotal moment for regional integration and shared development.

Caracas and Bogotá envision shared growth through the development of strategic projects, with particular emphasis on border states, underscoring the importance of regional collaboration to address common challenges and leverage geographical proximity for economic benefit. The bilateral discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for initiatives that directly impact communities along the shared border, promoting stability and prosperity in areas historically characterized by complex socio-economic dynamics.

President Petro arrived earlier today at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, in La Guaira state, where he was formally received by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil and diplomatic authorities from both countries.

The bilateral high-level dialogue is a direct outcome of the III Meeting of the Binational Good Neighbor Commission, which was established yesterday. During this commission meeting, eleven working groups were activated to address strategic areas as security and defense, commerce and industry, energy and hydrocarbons, health and environmental affairs and energy sovereignty.

This significant meeting marks the first time Delcy Rodríguez and Gustavo Petro have convened since her swearing-in as Acting President after the U.S. military aggression on January 3, which resulted on the kidnapping of constitutional President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, the First Combatant, Cilia Flores.

According to data released by the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Trade last March, binational trade flows experienced a significant jump. The trade volume surged from 741 million dollars in 2022 to 1.176 million dollars in 2025, indicating robust economic recovery and deepening commercial ties.

Factors such as increased production and export capacities, enhanced security along the border, and the crucial reopening of the border itself have played key roles. In this sense, the ongoing dialogue seeks to build upon these successes, ensuring sustainable growth and stability for both nations.
