On May 20, 2025, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro publicly denounced the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that permits the Trump administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 350,000 Venezuelan migrants living in the United States.
The Venezuelan President identified key figures behind the decision, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, accusing them of orchestrating a politically motivated attack on Venezuelan families abroad.
Maduro Condemns U.S. Political Actors and Affirms National Unity
Speaking from the newly renovated Petare Maternal and Child Hospital in Miranda state, President Maduro characterized the TPS revocation as a “criminal attempt” to undermine Venezuelan migrants’ rights. He explicitly blamed the “Miami mafia,” naming Rubio and Salazar as architects of the decision, which he framed as part of an ongoing U.S. campaign against Venezuela and its diaspora.
President Maduro emphasized that despite such external aggression, the Venezuelan government remains committed to reuniting its people and building a “recovered and stronger” nation that welcomes its migrants back with open arms.
Temporary Protected Status had provided legal residence and work authorization to hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans fleeing economic and political turmoil under U.S.-backed sanctions and hostile policies.

The Trump administration’s move to end TPS, upheld by the Supreme Court, jeopardizes the legal status of these migrants, exposing them to potential deportation. This decision follows the rescinding of a Biden-era extension and reflects a broader U.S. agenda to dismantle immigration protections.
In response to the ruling, President Maduro called for national solidarity and the eventual return of Venezuelan migrants to their homeland. He highlighted the need to overcome the damage wrought by the U.S.-led economic war and misinformation campaigns that lured many Venezuelans into the “American tragedy.”
President Maduro asserted that Venezuela is the “only blessed land and homeland we have” and urged citizens to work together to make the country strong and prosperous enough to welcome back every Venezuelan who was forced to leave.
The revocation of TPS is part of a broader pattern of U.S. imperialist measures aimed at destabilizing Venezuela and undermining its sovereignty. Left-wing political sources emphasize that these actions are designed to fracture Venezuelan families and communities abroad, weakening the social fabric and political resistance of the Bolivarian Revolution.
The Venezuelan government’s firm stance against this decision aligns with international calls for respect of migrants’ rights and the defense of national dignity against foreign intervention.
