The National Assembly of Venezuela approved this Tuesday, October 28, unanimously and in ordinary session, a draft agreement to declare the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, persona non grata. The initiative responds to actions considered hostile to Venezuelan sovereignty.

Deputy Iris Varela made the proposal in accordance with the provisions of Article 111 of the Rules of Procedure and Debates of the National Assembly and justified by citing Article 2, paragraph 4 of the Charter of the United Nations: “The Members of the Organization, in their international relations, shall refrain from resorting to the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, or in any other way inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.”
Varela said that Kamla Persad-Bissessar offered her territory to the United States to act against Venezuela. He stressed that the United States sanctions against the Venezuelan people have generated dialogues with sectors of the opposition, allowing the rejection of aggressions and military deployment in the Caribbean.
In this sense, the Venezuelan parliamentarians considered that the Trinidadian policy adopted a warmongering stance in Latin America and the Caribbean, by granting broad license to the CIA and the U.S. Southern Command to carry out military exercises in Trinidad and Tobago.
They pointed out that this action is described as a hostile provocation against Venezuela, a threat to peace in the Caribbean and a violation of the principles of peaceful coexistence, respect for sovereignty and the spirit of brotherhood in the region.
Such measures threaten political and social stability, offend the people of Trinidad and Tobago and their vocation to collaborate with Venezuela.
In addition, they violate the principles of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), including protection against the use of force, and violate the Proclamation of CELAC as a nuclear-weapon-free zone of peace.
The agreement establishes: To declare Kamla Persad-Bissessar persona non grata for being part of a systematic plan against the sovereignty, peace and self-determination of the Venezuelan people.
As well as strongly repudiating his position for inciting war and violence in the Caribbean, conduct incompatible with international law and the regional culture of peace and supporting the measures of the national Executive, such as the denunciation of the framework agreement for energy cooperation between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, and the suspension of other energy agreements.
Deputy Iris Varela advocated for the cessation of the energy agreement with Trinidad and Tobago in the face of the Prime Minister’s actions.
The agreement calls for Trinidad and Tobago to publicly dissociate itself from war provocations and false flag actions. Threats due to the presence of U.S. ships, responsible for extrajudicial executions against Latin American and Caribbean citizens, in violation of international law and the right to defense, will also be denounced in national and international bodies.
Opposition deputy José Dionisio Brito Rodríguez highlighted the warmongering, submissive and disloyal character of the premier, and how she has broken the CARICOM economic integration agreements.
