The establishment of business contacts must go far beyond the oil and gas sector, President Maduro emphasized.

On Tuesday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro ordered the creation of a business commission to establish agreements with the BRICS countries, a group of emerging economies led by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

“We are going to organize a super agro-productive business commission of all the states of the country so that they begin to make connections and travel to the BRICS countries to establish contacts, ties, and contracts to place Venezuelan production in those countries,” he said during his radio program “With Maduro, Suddenly.”

The establishment of business contacts for the export of Venezuelan goods and services must go “far beyond” the oil and gas sector, the Bolivarian leader emphasized.

“Investments in oil, gas, and petrochemicals are very good but we have to think much beyond oil. We have to think about a country that has manufacturing, agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture,” Maduro said.

Previously, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil stated that his country seeks to accelerate its entry as a full member of the BRICS. This announcement was made during the BRICS ministerial meeting, which was held in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod on Monday.

“Venezuela attends the ministerial meeting with the purpose of accelerating its entry as a full member, considering its energy strengths and its strategic location on the American continent,” Gil said.

In August 2023, the BRICS authorized the entry as full members of Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran.
