UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will officially announce on Sunday afternoon the formal recognition of the State of Palestine, according to several British media outlets.

On July 29, the head of the British government had already signaled that recognition of the Palestinian state would take place in September, before the United Nations General Assembly, if Israel failed to meet certain conditions—such as taking steps to end the “catastrophic situation in Gaza,” declaring a ceasefire, or ensuring that the West Bank would not be annexed.

During this period, the Zionist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu has intensified its military offensive in the Strip, along with the worsening humanitarian crisis and famine from a war approaching its two-year mark, which has already taken the lives of at least 65,208 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

Earlier this week, a United Nations commission of inquiry concluded that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

In recent months, Britain has denounced Israel’s push to expand settlements in the E1 zone near East Jerusalem, warning that the project would make a future Palestinian state impossible.

Starmer’s announcement would come just days after the state visit of U.S. President Donald Trump, who had already voiced his “disagreement” with the Labour leader’s stance on recognizing the Palestinian state during a joint press conference this week.
