Western countries treat Ukraine as a territory for geopolitical conflict rather than as an independent state.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denounced that Western countries do not view Ukraine as an independent state but as a platform for organizing attacks against the Russian people.

“Judging by its course in recent years, the West does not even need Ukraine as a state. The West’s attitude toward Ukraine is purely utilitarian. It is viewed as a territory for neocolonial exploitation of resources and for disposing of the local population in the furnace of geopolitical conflict against Russia. It is needed as a staging ground for permanently creating threats against us,” she said.

Previously, during an interview with Izvestia, Zakharova also noted that the Kiev regime is not only demonstrating a complete inability to negotiate a peace agreement, but is also intensifying its terrorist attacks against Russian civilian population.

“As long as things remain this way, the Russian Armed Forces will respond proportionately to emerging threats and will continue the special military operation to achieve the objectives set by President Vladimir Putin,” she pointed out, noting that further escalation of the conflict is not an option toward which Moscow wants to lean.

Nevertheless, she mentioned that the Kremlin is aware of the importance of the Kiev regime and its Western sponsors being genuinely willing to objectively recognize the reality of the situation and abandon “the erroneous and dangerous illusion” of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia on the battlefield.

“It is always more advantageous to reach an agreement with Russia than to later have to assess the damage, increasingly significant, caused by a Russophobic and shortsighted policy,” Zakharova said, adding that her country has not yet received concrete proposals for possible new meetings with U.S. representatives to address the Ukrainian conflict.

She also confirmed that Russian authorities are willing to listen to constructive initiatives from Washington that could lead to an end to the hostilities, but only if they take Russia’s interests into account.

Over the last months, Ukraine has carried out constant targeted attacks against Russia’s civilian population, using weapons supplied by the West, while launching multiple drones against the Russian capital and its surrounding areas.

Ukrainian drones and missiles strike vehicles, including ambulances, homes, recreational areas, shopping centers and other civilian facilities, leaving casualties. In retaliation for those acts, the Russian Armed Forces carry out attacks against facilities linked to Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, including military, energy, and transportation targets.
