Switzerland knocked Algeria out of the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 on Friday with a decisive 2-0 win at the Vancouver stadium, securing their place in the next stage thanks to an early strike from Breel Embolo and a second-half goal from Dan Ndoye.
The Swiss national team will now return to Vancouver on Tuesday, July 7, to face the victor of Friday’s later fixture between Colombia and Ghana in the Round of 16.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, a Swiss national, watched the match from the venue’s VIP box and was visibly moved, applauding his country’s victory from the stands.
According to World Cup historical records, this result marks the first time in Switzerland’s five tournament appearances that the team has successfully navigated a knockout-stage round.
