Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has called on other nations to join Spain in providing humanitarian assistance to Cuba to counter the effects of the long‑standing United States blockade.
In an interview with public broadcaster RTVE, Albares acknowledged that building such consensus takes time, citing previous diplomatic efforts regarding Gaza, Ukraine, Greenland, and Iran as examples. Despite the challenges, he insisted that Spain ultimately leads such initiatives.

Spain has already dispatched two shipments of humanitarian aid to Cuba, worth over 1.3 million euros, making it the first nation in the world to do so. He added that Madrid is prepared to send as many additional packages as necessary to alleviate the worsening situation on the island.
Cuba’s crisis has deepened in recent months due to a severe energy shortage, exacerbated by Washington’s threat to impose punitive tariffs on any country that continues to supply crude to the Caribbean nation.Â
However, last week Havana received a Russian Shipment of 100,000 tons of crude, marking first fuel delivery to the island in nearly three months.
