The Sao Paulo Forum condemned the new measure imposed by the US administration against Cuba on Friday, January 30, calling it “absurd coercion.”
The movement, which brings together progressive and left-wing political parties from Latin America and the Caribbean, denounced the total fuel supply blockade imposed by Donald Trump on the Cuban people via social media.

The measure responds to an executive order signed by the US president declaring a national emergency and establishing tariffs on goods from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba.
This action represents an intensification of the blockade, which has lasted for more than six decades, and is part of Washington’s maximum pressure policy against the island, justified under false pretenses of US national security interests and foreign policy.
Faced with this scenario, the Sao Paulo Forum called on defenders of the sovereignty of nations to act immediately in defense of Cuba.
Historically, Washington has applied sanctions not only against Cuba, but also against numerous countries around the world to impose its political will—a policy that the United States presents as a defense of its national security despite its interventionist nature in practice.
These actions include, among others, the imposition of economic barriers, financial restrictions, and diplomatic pressure to isolate governments considered adverse to its interests. In more than six decades, the accumulated damages caused by the U.S. blockade against Cuba exceed $170.677 billion.
In recent months, U.S. forces deployed a military operation in the Caribbean that included a strict blockade against Venezuela, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking. These actions included extrajudicial killings, fuel theft, and a direct attack against the country, which resulted in the kidnapping of the constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores.
