Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has officially returned to European football at 46 years old after signing with Ravenna FC of Italy’s Serie C, ending a decade retirement to seek his final professional goal.

Ronaldinho landed in the Italian region of Romagna to formalize his return to the pitch. After arriving at Forlì airport on a private flight, where he was received by club executives and fans, the Brazilian made his his official presentation in Marina di Ravenna, a public event which marked the beginning of his stage with the Ravenna FC of Serie C.

The agreement with the Italian team, facilitated by his connection with the institution’s current owner, Ignazio Cipriani, does not contemplate the player assuming a regular competitive workload.

The objective is specific: to play calculated minutes on the field to attempt to score the last goal of his career. This decision represents his return to the grass after having played his last official match in January 2016.

This signing carries an institutional and economic component for the organization. As the club detailed during negotiations, the operation aims to give visibility to the team, therefore Ronaldinho will also serve as partner, co-investor and international ambassador. With this commercial structure, the club seeks to consolidate a long-term project that can establish itself as a new point of reference within Italian football.

The technical attention now focuses on the physical evaluation of the player, a factor that will determine the appropriate moment for his entry. The Ravenna competition calendar schedules upcoming commitments against Reggiana, Latina and Forlì FC between late August and early October. It is expected that in one of these matches the former player will step onto the field to execute his plan and definitively close his professional career.

The announcement has generated great expectation among Italian and international football fans. Ravenna, a modest Serie C club, has seen its media visibility multiply since the news broke. For the city of Ravenna, Ronaldinho’s presence represents a unique opportunity to position itself on the global football map. For the Brazilian, the return is not about proving his old physical form, but about saying goodbye on his own terms, on a European field, wearing the number that made him famous and with the smile that defined one of the most brilliant careers in football history.

His career includes a World Cup title in 2002, two FIFA World Player of the Year awards, a Ballon d’Or in 2005, and unforgettable spells with Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Flamengo. Now, at 46, Ronaldinho writes one last chapter, not as a farewell of nostalgic but as a commercial and sporting project designed to close his trajectory where European football first welcomed him.
