Rodrigo Paz assumed the presidency during an official ceremony at the National Congress, beginning his term for the 2025–2030 period. The Supreme Electoral Tribunal previously issued credentials to Paz and Vice President Edman Lara at the Casa de la Libertad in Sucre.
Lara first took office as president of the Assembly before administering the oath to Paz. During the swearing-in, Paz stated, “God, family, and homeland, yes, I swear.”
In his inaugural address, Paz emphasized a reorientation in Bolivia’s political stance. “Never again a Bolivia isolated, subjected to failed ideologies, and much less turned away from the world,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Argentina’s President Javier Milei, Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña, and Francina Armengol, president of Spain’s Cortes Generales and Congress of Deputies.
Former President Luis Arce did not attend. He stated that his presence was not necessary “for the handover to take place.”
Paz begins his term amid shifting regional dynamics and expectations of policy adjustments at both domestic and international levels.
