A nighttime Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and wounded four others in the southern Rostov region on the shores of the Black Sea, while also damaging a foreign-flagged merchant vessel, according to Russian officials.

The attack targeted the city of Taganrog, where one person died and four were injured — three local residents and one foreign citizen, Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar told news agency TASS. He added that the wounded are hospitalized in critical condition.

A foreign-flagged merchant vessel located several kilometers off the coast was damaged in the bay by drone debris, sparking a fire that has since been brought under control, the governor said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its active air defense systems shot down 85 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones during the early morning hours. The regions affected by the attacks included Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Oryol, Rostov, Samara, Saratov, and Tula.
