The award legitimizes a potential U.S. military intervention in Latin America.
On Tuesday, an alliance of Norwegian organizations dedicated to international solidarity will stage a protest rejecting the Nobel Committee’s decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Corina Machado.

In addition to explicitly calling for a military intervention against her country, this far-right activist has supported U.S. coercive measures imposed on Venezuela and has played a key role in coordinating violent and destabilizing actions in her nation.
The organizations argue that the award contradicts the spirit of Alfred Nobel’s will and legitimizes a potential U.S. military intervention in Latin America.
Gro Standnes, president of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and a member of the Norwegian Peace Council, emphasized that a prize intended to promote coexistence and dialogue cannot be granted to political figures who support military actions or initiatives that violate international norms.
“When the prize is awarded to a politician who supports military interference and actions contrary to international law, it breaks with the very purpose of the Nobel Peace Prize,” she said.
Lina Alvarez, information adviser for the Norwegian Committee of Solidarity with Latin America, warned that U.S. President Donald Trump openly threatened to launch a military offensive against Venezuela, violating the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity of other states.
Alvarez cautioned that these threats, along with the illegal attacks Washington is carrying out in the Caribbean, endanger the civilian population, undermine Venezuelan sovereignty, and increase instability throughout the continent.
“It is unacceptable for the Peace Prize to be used to legitimize Trump’s illegal use of force in Latin America. U.S. military interventions have never brought peace or prosperity to the region,” she said.
The protest against Machado will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, where slogans such as “No Nobel for promoters of war!” and “United States: Hands off Latin America!” are expected to be highlighted.
The humanitarian organizations maintain that Machado’s selection violates the original mandate of the prize’s creator, which stipulated that the award should go to people who promote disarmament, the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and fraternity among nations.
Contrary to that mandate, Machado supports actions that violate international law, as she dedicated the prize to President Donald Trump precisely when the United States is conducting military operations that constitute extrajudicial killings and violations of international norms.
Human rights defenders also note that the far-right activist spreads warlike propaganda by repeating Trump’s claims that describe the Venezuelan government as a “drug-trafficking cartel” and portray it as a threat to the United States, even though such accusations have been debunked by U.S. intelligence agencies and even by other representatives of the Venezuelan right.
Internationally, Maria Corina Machado has generated controversy due to her support for the genocidal campaign carried out by the Zionist state in Palestinian territories. Her party has even signed a cooperation agreement with Likud, the organization led by Benjamin Netanyahu.
