President Sheinbaum says more rescue teams can be deployed if needed.

On Monday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said her government is preparing to send additional humanitarian aid to assist Venezuelans affected by the two earthquakes that struck on June 24.

Earlier, Venezuela’s diplomatic mission sent a letter to Mexico and other countries requesting an expansion of humanitarian assistance.

“They are requesting water purification plants, power generators and nonperishable goods,” Sheinbaum said, adding that 250 Mexican rescuers continue to work in Venezuela.

“Our brigade rescued two people,” she said, adding that Mexico, a country with extensive expertise in humanitarian response following earthquakes, will send more rescue personnel if necessary.

The Mexican federal government is currently coordinating with various agencies to establish collection centers for relief supplies that will later be transported to Venezuela.

During her morning news conference, Sheinbaum also referred to a telephone conversation she held with Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez.

“We spoke in general about the situation in Venezuela, which is very sad because of what they are going through. They have our solidarity, always. That is what I expressed to her,” the Mexican leader said.
