Just on Friday, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) announced the arrest of seven bodyguards for their probable participation in the murder of Manzo, but in total there were eight accused.

“Yesterday seven were arrested. One was not arrested, that is, he is a fugitive, but seven were arrested (…) there are eight and one (escaped) was part of the mayor’s circle,” the governor told the media.

The state president did not reveal the agent’s identity, but explained that the bodyguard fled when the other seven were being arrested on Friday in the municipality of Uruapan.

Regarding whether agents of the National Guard might also be required, Ramírez Bedolla said that “everyone is being investigated, including the National Guard.”

Although he specified that the inner circle of the mayor, Manzo himself “determined that these escorts were his closest circle in terms of his security and the National Guard always made a second circle around him.”

He stressed that in the case of Manzo’s murder, all lines of investigation are under investigation and “a comprehensive, broad investigation of, let’s say, 360 degrees is being carried out, in every sense where there is a line of investigation, it is being unfolded and developed.

And in the line that includes his first security circle, the eight bodyguards, their statements are already being taken and they are at the disposal of the corresponding judge, who will determine their legal situation.”

He recalled that the investigation is being carried out by the State Attorney General’s Office with specialized teams from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico.

On Friday, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that it concerns six men and one woman, who were part of the Municipal Police and on the day of the attack were part of the first circle of personal security of Manzo Rodríguez during the Candle Lighting festival that the mayor led as part of the commemoration of the Night of the Dead, in the main square of Uruapan.

The arrests occurred on the same day that an alleged mastermind of the crime, identified as Jorge Antonio ‘N’, alias ‘El Licenciado’, was imprisoned, after being arrested last Wednesday, also in the state of Michoacán.
