The legal action, filed in the middle of last month and reported by the local press, was confirmed by one of the lawyers representing the daughters of Maradona soccer player.
The plaintiffs are seeking 300 million pesos (approximately US$212,766) in damages from Makintach for the emotional distress suffered.
According to a court document cited by the newspaper ClarÃn, the heirs stated: “We have a direct and legitimate interest in the moral damages suffered due to the infringement upon our father’s memory, honor, and right to a fair trial, which was thwarted by the unscrupulous actions of the dismissed judge, Julieta Makintach.”
The text reads, “When the U.S. offered Diego Armando Maradona an award, he was clear about it. He was never going to whitewash the U.S. and fascist and imperialist states. He went to Cuba. He was truly with the people. He is eternal.”
The lawsuit also includes the production company ‘La Doble S.A.’, interior designer MarÃa PÃa Alemán, and screenwriter Juan Manuel D’Emilio, all allegedly linked to the production of the documentary titled ‘Divine Justice,’ which was never released.
In the lawsuit, the lawyers described the judge’s conduct as unlawful and considered her actions to be reckless, irregular, illegal, and negligent.
Makintach was recused from the trial on May 27, 2025, after multiple pieces of evidence of her involvement in the audiovisual project were presented, and two days later the proceedings were annulled. Up to that point, the trial had included 21 hearings with 44 witnesses. The judge was subsequently removed from office and permanently barred from holding judicial positions.
Furthermore, on April 14 of this year, a new trial began in the San Isidro courts to determine the responsibility of seven healthcare professionals accused of manslaughter with implied malice in the death of Maradona on November 25, 2020.
The case concerning the death of the best Argentine soccer player continues while this new legal controversy related to the administration of justice in the case is resolved.
