Job creation in U.S. industries with large Latino workforces plunged 35% in the first eight months of 2025, coinciding with the start of Donald Trump’s far-right administration, according to a study released Friday by Americans for Tax Fairness.

Out of 842,200 new positions in these sectors during the first eight months of 2024, only 546,200 were created in 2025, the report stated, citing data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This meant 296,000 fewer jobs from January to August than a year earlier, spanning sectors such as construction, transportation, hospitality, manufacturing, health care, and more.
ATF also recalled that in July it had estimated workers in these sectors would lose an average of $1,500 annually due to the combination of tariffs and the tax and service cuts promoted by the federal government.
Each of the seven industries analyzed employed at least 1 million Latino workers, who represented at least 20% of the total workforce in those fields.
In this context, ATF pointed out that Trump’s approval rating fell to 37% among Latino voters in September, while disapproval rose to 60%, according to a survey conducted last month by Global Strategy Group and Somos Votantes.
ATF executive director David Kass said Republican tax policies are hurting the U.S. economy overall, while Latinos are being disproportionately affected. He added that the sharp drop in Latino support for the Trump administration reflects the parallel decline in Latino-heavy job sectors.
