Ivory Coast defeated Ecuador 1‑0 with a 90th‑minute goal from Amad Diallo in their Group E debut match on Sunday, leaving Ecuador without points alongside Curaçao, who lost 7‑1 to Germany, while Ivory Coast joins Germany on three points but with an inferior goal difference.
Ecuador’s Argentinian trainer Beccacece sent a message of calm after the defeat, stating that Ecuador’s World Cup experience is just beginning. He noted that his team made necessary adjustments in the second half and had the match under control enough to secure at least a draw.
