Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued an open letter addressed directly to the U.S. public, academics and journalists, after seven months of armed aggression from Washington and Tel Aviv.

The IRGC clarifies that the slogan “Death to America” is not directed at the U.S. people, whom it considers also a victim of White House policies. The note details the internal social crisis of the United States, highlighting that the country holds 20% of the world’s prison population despite representing only 4% of the planet’s inhabitants, in addition to 40 million people living below the poverty line and more than 1,300 annual deaths at the hands of police.

The institution says both nations share the grievance caused by the same ruling elite, and contrasts the moral doctrine of the Islamic Republic and the leadership of current leader Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei with Washington’s political leadership, which it accuses of prioritizing corporate financial interests and subordination to Israel over the population’s well-being.

The document reviews a 73-year history of Washington’s aggressions against Iranian sovereignty, beginning with the CIA coup d’état in 1953 against Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh. It recalls U.S. support for the dictatorship of Shah Reza Pahlavi, the creation of the SAVAK intelligence network, military support for Saddam Hussein through the supply of chemical weapons during the Imposed War, and the deliberate downing of Iran Air Flight 655 in 1988, in which 290 civilians died.

It also denounces the responsibility of U.S. military interventions in the creation of extremist groups such as the self-styled Daesh, and points to the disbursement of more than 8 trillion dollars on wars such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq, while U.S. public debt exceeds 40 trillion dollars.

The missive emphasizes the U.S. government’s complicity in the aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, which leaves a toll of 74,023 people killed, including 21,700 children. It pays homage to Air Force serviceman Aaron Bushnell, who self-immolated in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington in rejection of the genocide.

In closing, the IRGC urged the U.S. public to hold their leaders accountable. “Remove from power the evil, deceitful, and violent politicians who are responsible for America’s current state. Entrust your affairs to the wise, not the wily. Make sure your politicians understand that the world has changed.”
