U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested more than 10,000 people over the past five days, nearly doubling the daily arrest rate from about 1,000 at the start of the year to roughly 2,000 per day, as the Trump administration intensifies immigration enforcement under a White House-requested strategy, according to internal documents and federal officials cited by local media.

Unlike earlier, widely publicized operations in Chicago and Los Angeles, the recent increase has been carried out with a lower profile, without major public deployments, after the administration shifted its strategy following criticism of previous high-impact operations.

According to the report, ICE recently ordered regional heads to redouble efforts to locate and detain deportable immigrants, conducting arrests during immigration checks, traffic inspections, and public operations. One official warned, however, that it is unclear how long this level of activity can be sustained.

The arrest surge coincides with President Trump’s push to accelerate mass deportations, a key promise of his second term.

Recent Supreme Court decisions have expanded executive action on immigration but limited the administration’s attempt to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and temporary visitors.
