The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras has completed the deadline to form the final electoral census for the general elections on November 30, enabling 6.5 million citizens to exercise their right to vote in a process that seeks to guarantee maximum transparency.

Of the total eligible population, which represents a significant part of the country’s almost 10 million inhabitants, 500,000 new young voters stand out and are joining a democratic exercise for the first time. To this figure are added another 500,000 Hondurans who reside abroad, mainly in the United States, who will also have the right to participate.

The authorities of the National Registry of Persons (RNP) reported that the collection of records concluded on August 16, at which time a rigorous purging process began. This procedure has the explicit objective of eradicating fraudulent practices denounced in previous elections, such as the inclusion of deceased people in the voting lists.

The RNP assures that these irregularities, which in the past were denounced by relatives who found the names of their deceased loved ones on the lists and even registered as voters, will not happen again.

This measure strengthens confidence in a system that in the last internal elections had the participation of 5.9 million Hondurans.

In the electoral contest on November 30, all the country’s political forces will compete for the positions of president, deputies to the National Congress, representatives to the Central American Parliament and municipal mayors.
