Deputies, activists, and women’s rights organizations in Guatemala have urged immediate attention to the healthcare needs of Palestinian women and girls. They highlighted the particular vulnerability of pregnant women, who face the dual risks of conflict and carrying a developing life, as well as girls undergoing critical stages of physical and cognitive development.

Malnutrition is significantly delaying children’s growth in both weight and height, with long-term impacts on cognitive development. One lawmaker emphasized the severity of the situation, warning that violations against women and girls are blatant.

Advocates also stressed the importance of reproductive freedom and preserving ancestral legacies, noting that these rights are under direct threat in Gaza. Beyond general solidarity with the Palestinian population, they called for specialized healthcare services for adolescents and expectant mothers.

Guatemalan indigenous and rural women’s communities, who have historically experienced state neglect in both war and peace, bring unique perspectives to their advocacy, drawing on personal experience to speak with authority on these issues.

The statements from Guatemalan women underscore the urgent need for international attention to the health and rights of girls and pregnant women in Gaza, connecting global solidarity with lessons from local experiences of vulnerability and resilience.
