The coalition, created in Kiev on April 30 at Ukraine’s initiative, now brings together the arms procurement and logistics agencies Ukraine, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
CORPUS is a platform for collaboration among member countries that combines Ukraine’s experience in procurement and maintenance during the war with the expertise of the other partners in developing defense capabilities.
The aim of the coalition is to improve transparency and coordination in arms procurement, increase the resilience of the supply system and deepen long-term cooperation between Ukraine and its European partners.
CORPUS is open to the accession of new member countries, provided they adopt the memorandum of cooperation signed in Kiev and receive the unanimous consent of the other partners.
Ukraine Launches Operation Against Corrupt Military Recruiters
On Monday, Ukraine’s National Police announced a large-scale operation with more than 40 searches in 16 regions of the country targeting recruitment office personnel suspected of abuse of power, illicit enrichment, and other crimes.
The actions are aimed at current and former officials involved in corruption who are believed to have failed to declare about 1.78 million euros obtained fraudulently by exploiting the powers of their positions in recruitment offices. One of the suspects purchased assets worth more than 870,000 euros during his time as head of the recruitment office in the Odesa district.
Police seized during the operation, which lasted several days, Tesla electric vehicles of various models, motorcycles and cash in different currencies, and opened more than 150 anti-corruption cases.
These police actions are intended to combat corruption in recruitment offices in a systematic manner and to restore trust in this institution, which plays a key role in Ukraine’s war effort.
Ukrainian authorities have previously carried out similar operations against recruitment office officials who blackmail citizens or take bribes to exempt them from mobilization.
Ukraine depends on the actions of these officials — whose duties include forcibly recruiting men of military age into the army — to ensure its armed forces have sufficient personnel.
