The first of three humanitarian flights delivered rescue teams, medical supplies and food after Wednesday’s earthquakes.

The first aircraft carrying humanitarian assistance from El Salvador has landed in Venezuela following the two earthquakes that struck the country on Wednesday, delivering rescue personnel, medical supplies and food to support ongoing emergency operations.

The aircraft arrived at 9:36 p.m. local time at El Libertador Air Base in Palo Negro, Aragua state, according to Venezuelan state media. It is the first of three flights announced by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele as part of a humanitarian mission for Venezuela.

In response to the emergency, the Salvadoran government deployed a contingent of 300 highly specialized rescuers and paramedics, according to a statement issued by the Presidency’s Press Secretariat. The team is being mobilized to Caracas to reinforce rescue and relief efforts.

The personnel have extensive experience in search-and-rescue operations in collapsed structures, pre-hospital care, patient stabilization, emergency medicine, incident management and large-scale disaster response.

Authorities said the mission is intended to strengthen the work of Venezuelan institutions during the critical hours following the disaster by supporting the search for survivors, providing medical assistance to the injured and delivering immediate aid in affected areas.

El Salvador also sent 50 tons of medicines, medical supplies and essential relief items to reinforce Venezuela’s emergency response capacity and help meet the most urgent needs of affected communities.

“May God guide and protect them during this mission,” Bukele wrote on his official X account, accompanying a video showing emergency teams loading the aircraft before departure.

The Salvadoran government said the mission reaffirms its support for the Venezuelan people and government while promoting international solidarity through humanitarian cooperation.

The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, affected several states across western, central and eastern Venezuela. The tremors caused building collapses and severe structural damage at Maiquetía International Airport, leading authorities to suspend airport operations.

Health Minister Carlos Alvarado said during an official broadcast that the number of injured had risen to 4,300.
