Dominican Republic institutions activate contingency plans for the imminence of Tropical Storm Melissa

In the face of the passage of Tropical Storm Melissa near the Dominican Republic, State institutions today activated their contingency plans to guarantee a coordinated response and protect the population, infrastructure and agricultural production.
The National Emergency Response and Security System 911 implemented preventive protocols and allocated additional resources to strengthen its key areas and maintain continuity of operations.

The work of the main departments was monitored to ensure the availability of staff and equipment. In addition, 911 made its coordination and video surveillance resources available to the Emergency Operations Center (COE), as well as the Remotely Manned Aircraft Division (drones).
In conjunction with the Military and Police Commission of the Ministry of Public Works, the Mayor’s Office of the National District and other agencies, the main communication routes, tunnels, overpasses and overpasses were monitored, with the aim of preventing incidents.
Technical support brigades were also strengthened to ensure the operability of the strategic radio network in order to facilitate continuous and secure communication between all response institutions.
For his part, the general director of the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Food (Dasac), Edgar Augusto Féliz Méndez, declared the institution’s Emergency Committee in permanent session. Féliz Méndez explained that the Dasac staff maintains an active intervention and rapid response team to ensure immediate attention to families who may be impacted.

The official explained that the institution has a comprehensive assistance protocol: first with the delivery of hot food through mobile stoves, utensils for immediate use, and then the removal of damage to homes for repair, in addition to the delivery of belongings damaged by the rains.
He also stressed that the dining rooms, mobile kitchens and trucks loaded with raw ration kits, mats, sheets and mosquito nets are ready to assist families in vulnerable situations.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture activated its Contingency Plan to protect agricultural production and mitigate the effects of the storm in rural areas.
