Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel  described as “forceful” the support the Caribbean nation received at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), where it was demonstrated that the U.S. blockade violates the individual guarantees of the Cuban people.

In a message on his official X account, Díaz-Canel stressed that the report presented by the Special Rapporteur on Unilateral Coercive Measures, Alena Douhan, “demonstrates that the blockade violates the human rights of the people of Cuba.” He highlighted that the United States “fails to confuse or disorient the international community with its lies, threats and aggressions.”

Díaz-Canel said it is urgent that they comply with the recommendations received and let Cuba live in peace, concluding: “Cuba is not a threat, the blockade is.”

The Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a statement recalling that Douhan made an official visit to Cuba from Nov. 11 to 21, 2025, at the invitation of the island’s government. According to the statement, in her report she ruled that the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Cuba have a devastating effect with the unprecedented intensification of the U.S. blockade, through the imposition of an energy siege and secondary sanctions.

Last Monday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez held a press conference in Havana, in which he specified that the cost of the U.S. blockade on Cuba between March 1, 2025 and Feb. 28, 2026, was 8,083.3 million dollars.
