Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez applauded the initiative on social media, highlighting that the Cuban government welcomed this proposal’s “commitment to the democratization of international relations.”

Rodríguez underscored the “merit of this endeavor” which, he explained, “promotes the democratization of international relations and constitutes the common aspiration of the Global South.”

Similarly, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced on Monday that his country will join the initiative: “I am going to sign the official document of accession to the new Global Governance that dozens of countries around the world are signing, and Venezuela is joining President Xi Jinping’s initiative,” Maduro said at a press conference.

Regarding the initiative, when presenting his vision, President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for the SCO to “advocate for a fair and orderly world order” and promote a “fairer and more reasonable” global governance system.

The Chinese leader also urged the bloc to defend “inclusive globalization” and strengthen the “multilateral trading system” with the World Trade Organization (WTO) as its “cornerstone,” especially in the aftermath of the trade war unleashed by the United States.

In front of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Xi Jinping recommended that the SCO “oppose the Cold War mentality, confrontation between sides, and intimidation.”

The Cuban government announced the upcoming visit of President Miguel Díaz-Canel as part of a tour of Asia, during which he plans to meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
