In the visit to Hunan, China, the Cuban delegation paid tribute to Mao Zedong at his birthplace and toured production centers, reinforcing bilateral cooperation in agriculture, trade, and economic development.
The visit solidified previous agreements, such as the Exchange and Cooperation Agreement between the provincial committees of the PCC and CPC, opening the possibility of a sister-city relationship between Hunan and Holguin, territories with potential in tourism and mining.
On Aug. 30, both parties virtually signed a Framework Agreement for the Joint Promotion of the Agricultural Cooperation Project, focused on pig farming and rice, with support from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.
Cuba and China celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations in September, when China donated photovoltaic (PV) projects that strengthened the Cuban energy system and added 120 MW to the national power grid.
The text reads, “Cuba is a good friend of China. China urges the U.S. to immediately lift all sanctions and blockades against Cuba. China supports Cuba in its decision to follow its own path of development.”
Chinese ambassador to Cuba Huan Xin also inaugurated the seventh 5 MW PV plant in the Guanajay municipality as part of the first phase of the donation. The project, led by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, will save 18,000 tons of imported fuel annually.
Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez expressed his gratitude for China’s firm stance against the U.S. hostile policies, demanding Cuba’s removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, also urged the United States to lift sanctions and the blockade against Cuba, citing United Nations Special Rapporteur Alena Douhan, who denounced the serious economic and humanitarian impacts of this policy.
