A corruption scandal involving bribery, extortion, and money laundering has rocked the presidential campaign of Flávio Bolsonaro, the candidate from Brazil’s Liberal Party (PL), just days before the elections on October 4.

The revelations, published by independent Brazilian outlet PlatôBR, detail a series of documents compiled by his former business partner, Alexandre Santini, purportedly showing how the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro used state structures to benefit private interests in exchange for favors and luxury goods.

These documents reveal how Bolsonaro, during his father Jair Bolsonaro’s presidency, acted as the main intermediary for pressure groups and lawyers in various ministries, regulatory bodies, and courts. The revelations include evidence of Bolsonaro using state resources to benefit private interests in exchange for personal favors and luxury items.

The documents indicate that funds of questionable origin, managed through a Kopenhagen chocolate franchise in Rio de Janeiro, currently under investigation as part of the so-called “rachadinhas” public funds embezzlement scheme, were used to cover personal expenses, property purchases and private events at luxury hotels.

Additionally, Bolsonaro’s entourage financed extravagant gifts, such as a Rolex watch valued at 305,000 reais (58,613 dollars), given by the lobbyist lawyer Alan Belaciano, and the installation of gym equipment in his Brasília residence worth over 90,000 reais (around 17,000 dollars).

Extortion and Political Pressure

The leaked material also exposes the presidential hopeful’s vulnerability to blackmail from former allies. Santini, who managed part of the senator’s parallel financial structure and kept records of the group’s alleged illicit activities, reportedly used photographs, audio recordings and receipts to demand financial compensation following the breakup of their business partnership.

The conflict reportedly escalated to involve members of Flavio Bolsonaro’s family, leading him to acknowledge in writing that he had committed wrongdoing and made poor decisions. The most critical point of pressure against the candidate came after threats to publicly expose his alleged direct interference with Supreme Federal Court Justice Kassio Nunes Marques, appointed during Jair Bolsonaro’s administration, allegedly to benefit a case involving a client managed by political operators within his circle. That blackmail reportedly forced the far-right candidate into closed-door negotiations at his Senate office in an effort to prevent the evidence from becoming public before the election.

The revelations of alleged money laundering, favors granted to private corporations and diversion of public resources land at a decisive moment in Brazil’s electoral race. Flavio Bolsonaro is the leading figure of the far-right challenging the social and sovereign reconstruction project led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the upcoming elections on October 4.
