President Sheinbaum is seeking a diplomatic solution to resume oil shipments to Cuba.
On Sunday, hundreds of protesters gathered in Mexico City in front of the former U.S. Embassy to demand that Mexico maintain its support for Cuba in the face of new restrictions from Washington.

The demonstrators denounced the U.S. policy of “strangulation,” which directly affects the daily lives of Cubans, impacts on transportation, electricity, and basic services due to fuel shortages.
Aline Perez and Isabel Pedro, activists of the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, stated that the blockade also affects hospitals and medical treatments. They denounced the U.S. measures as inhumane and part of a broader regional policy.
They explained that the pressure on Cuba is linked to international conflicts and urged people to exert pressure through responsible consumption and the rejection of U.S. products as a form of resistance.
Protester Angelica Ceron recalled Cuba’s aid in literacy programs and medical brigades throughout Latin America, stating that it would be unjust not to support Cuba. She called for a “common front” in defense of Cuban public health.
While Ceron maintained that oil support should be understood as humanitarian aid, linked to energy and mobility, protester Manlio Quiroz called for a firmer stance from Mexico against what he described as U.S. “abuse.”
The protest occurred after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on countries that send oil to Cuba, which increased energy pressure on the island amid diplomatic tensions.
He also asked Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to halt crude oil shipments. However, she refused to discuss it directly and announced humanitarian aid with food and basic goods within a week.
Sheinbaum asserted that her government is seeking a diplomatic solution to the resumption of oil shipments to Cuba to support the Caribbean island through its energy and economic crisis.
