“China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear. We support all efforts for peace. China supports Russia and Ukraine in starting direct dialogue,” said Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We look forward to a fair, lasting and binding peace agreement that is accepted by all parties concerned, reached through dialogue and negotiation, and ultimately a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis,” he added.
China has repeatedly said it wants to play a constructive role in achieving peace and has emphasized that Europe should have a voice in the peace talks.
Since the beginning of the Ukraine conflict, Beijing has called for respect for “the territorial integrity of all countries” and attention to the “legitimate concerns of all” states.
While European nations have urged President Xi Jinping to use his influence over Russian President Vladimir Putin, China has resisted imposing unilateral sanctions on Moscow.
During his most recent visit to Russia, Xi strengthened ties with the Russian nation to “uphold international justice and promote the reform of the global governance system,” according to Putin.
