The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) expressed its support this Tuesday for Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s proposal to hold a dialogue among civilizations within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly.

This initiative, the text warns, arises in a global context marked by armed conflicts, threats to peoples’ sovereignty, and increasing social and economic inequalities.

In the official statement, ALBA-TCP stated that “this call stands as a historic and visionary necessity to stop barbarism and build a path toward world peace.”

The organization also emphasized the importance of joining forces to preserve life and promote global justice.

Petro’s proposal seeks to convene representatives from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Europe, as well as progressive forces from around the world.

The objective is to establish a space for dialogue that fosters mutual respect among nations and addresses global challenges collectively.

ALBA-TCP, made up of Latin American and Caribbean countries, pledged to support this initiative with a humanistic and supportive approach.

Member states of the platform reiterated their commitment to the principles of solidarity, justice, and peace, values ​​that have guided their actions since its founding in 2004.

The support expressed for Gustavo Petro’s call reinforces the importance of the United Nations General Assembly as a space for global dialogue.
