In a dramatic escalation of regional hostilities, Yemen’s armed forces launched a coordinated attack early Monday involving 11 missiles—including three hypersonic—and eight drones targeting key Israeli infrastructure.
The operation came in direct response to Israeli airstrikes on Yemeni Red Sea ports and a power station hours earlier.
According to Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Ansarallah-aligned Yemeni military, the strikes hit Ben Gurion International Airport, the Port of Ashdod, and a power plant in Ashkelon.
Saree claimed the operation was “successful,” stating that Israeli defense systems failed to intercept the projectiles, and that the attack temporarily disrupted air traffic and forced evacuations.
The Israeli military acknowledged the launches and activated its defense systems, but did not confirm whether interceptions were successful.
The Yemeni strikes followed Israeli bombardments of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif ports, as well as the Ras al-Kathib power station, which Tel Aviv described as targeting “terrorist infrastructure” used to smuggle Iranian weapons.
Yemen’s government condemned the Israeli attacks as part of a broader campaign to expand the war beyond Gaza, and vowed to continue its military operations until the siege on Gaza is lifted.
“Not a single ship will pass through our area of operations,” said Nasr al-Din Amer, deputy head of Ansarallah’s media authority.
Since October 7, 2023, over 57,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, with more than 136,000 injured and 10,000 missing, according to Palestinian sources.
Yemen has maintained a naval blockade on Israel in solidarity with Gaza and has pledged a “sustained and prolonged confrontation” if Israeli aggression continues.
