The World Food Programme (WFP) has issued an urgent warning about Haiti’s deepening humanitarian crisis, with 5.7 million people facing extreme food insecurity.

WFP’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Lola Castro, described the situation as “dramatic and heartbreaking”, emphasizing that Haiti is among the five worst-hit countries globally in terms of hunger.

Violence has devastated agricultural zones, forcing thousands to rely entirely on food aid.

WFP has assisted 1.3 million Haitians this year but warns that supplies are nearly depleted. Without additional funding, school meal programs for half a million children will be cut in half.

Unlike previous years, WFP has no emergency food reserves for the hurricane season, which could push millions into deeper catastrophe.

WFP urgently needs $46.4 million to sustain its emergency response over the next six months.

“We cannot forget the people of Haiti,” Castro pleaded, urging global donors to act before the crisis worsens.
