Delcy Rodríguez Stresses Importance of Citizen Participation in Catia Electoral Drill

Delcy Rodríguez, Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, toured the Socialist Commune of Catia in Caracas as part of an electoral simulation ahead of the May 25 elections. During her visit, Rodríguez highlighted the significance of this democratic exercise, stating, “The most important thing is popular consultation and direct democracy in Venezuela,” while observing strong citizen turnout in the streets.

Rodríguez Hails Electoral Drill as Key to Participatory Democracy

In her address, the vice president emphasized preparations for the upcoming elections, where representatives for the National Assembly (AN), governors, and legislative councils will be chosen. Rodríguez described the vote as a “democratic celebration” that will reaffirm a sovereign Assembly and strengthen ties between grassroots movements and the Bolivarian government.

She urged citizens to actively participate in the electoral drill, encouraging them to familiarize themselves with voting procedures. Her tour also included oversight of social initiatives, such as a newly installed water purification plant developed in collaboration with the community.

Social Programs & Food Security Inspected Alongside Electoral Preparations

Rodríguez reviewed the results of the April 27 Popular Consultation, which led to infrastructure and housing improvements in Catia. She also inspected food distribution programs offering affordable proteins, eggs, oil, and vegetables to bolster national production and food security.

The vice president emphasized the role of open-air markets in ensuring accessible nutrition and noted that community engagement is vital for shaping public policy. She reiterated that citizen participation remains crucial for Venezuela’s national transformation and political dialogue.
