Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab has sharply condemned Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, accusing him of orchestrating secret agreements with gang leaders to consolidate power while simultaneously subjecting Venezuelan detainees to inhumane treatment.

Saab’s denunciation follows a June 30 report by The New York Times, which revealed the existence of covert pacts between Bukele and the notorious international terrorist group Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13).

According to The New York Times, prosecutors have gathered evidence of a corrupt arrangement between Bukele’s government and high-ranking MS-13 leaders. The pact reportedly involves reducing gang violence and providing political support to Bukele in exchange for money and privileges granted to imprisoned gang leaders.

Disturbingly, Bukele allegedly pressured former U.S. President Donald Trump to repatriate nine dangerous gang members from U.S. prisons to El Salvador to prevent them from exposing these illicit agreements.

Saab highlighted the stark hypocrisy in Bukele’s actions: while negotiating with criminal gangs, the Salvadoran government holds over 250 Venezuelan nationals captive in the CECOT prison under brutal and torturous conditions. These Venezuelans were transferred from the U.S. to El Salvador without charges, effectively becoming pawns in Bukele’s corrupt dealings.

In a chilling revelation, Saab stated that Bukele offered the U.S. a 50% reduction in the cost of detaining Venezuelans in exchange for the transfer of gang leaders to El Salvador, treating human lives like commodities traded in a street market.

Reaffirming his commitment to defending Venezuelan citizens worldwide, Attorney General Saab called on multilateral organizations, especially the United Nations,to intervene urgently. He emphasized the need to confront these systematic abuses and arbitrariness perpetrated by Bukele’s regime.

This denunciation underscores the broader struggle against imperialist-backed regimes in the region that perpetuate violence and repression under the guise of security, while betraying their own populations and neighbors. Venezuela’s firm stance highlights the importance of solidarity and international vigilance in defending human rights and sovereignty across Latin America.
