According to the socialist politician, Venezuela is experiencing a historic day as peace has prevailed and the people head to the polls to elect 285 national legislators, 260 members of state legislative councils, and 24 governors.

Rodriguez also noted that more than 21,000 voters in the state of Guayana Esequiba will, for the first time, elect their governor, seven members of the Legislative Council, and eight representatives to the National Assembly.

“Venezuelans are sending a very powerful message: political, social, economic, and ideological issues are resolved through the voting machines,” the socialist politician said.

“In the face of calls for violence and unconstitutional measures, in the face of the dark alliance of violent groups, the people are clearly saying they want peace, harmony and fruitful dialogue,” he added, emphasizing that an election is nothing more than a dialogue among citizens.

Rodriguez stressed the importance of voter participation to express themselves and to help establish a new political landscape in Venezuela—one that fosters dialogue among all.

“We may think differently and hold different opinions. However, ultimately, we are all Venezuelans, and we are obligated to come to an agreement to build the country we must leave to our children and grandchildren,” he said.

“In Venezuela, elections are frequent and represent the constant renewal of our democracy. We are fulfilling a constitutional requirement and renewing the leadership of state governments and the National Assembly,” Rodriguez said. He also took the opportunity to congratulate Venezuela’s security forces for ensuring peace during the May 25 elections.
