Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro delivered a grave warning on June 23, 2025, cautioning that the ongoing war between Israel and Iran could escalate into a catastrophic nuclear conflict.
Speaking on his program Con Maduro +, he criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “level of insanity” and urged world leaders to unite in a peace summit to halt the spiral toward global destruction.
President Maduro announced Venezuela’s initiative to convene an urgent international summit aimed at de-escalating tensions in West Asia. Invitations have been sent to the presidents of the United States, China, Russia, and dozens of other heads of state, prime ministers, and monarchs.
Key organizations from the Global South, including the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and BRICS, have been called upon to actively participate.
“This idea, born from the depths of the Venezuelan people, expresses our Bolivarian doctrine of global balance and peace,” Maduro stated. “Peace can only be achieved with respect for international law, with the restoration of international law.”

The Threat of Nuclear War and the Role of Netanyahu’s Government
President Maduro emphasized that if the conflict continues to escalate, it risks becoming “a highly destructive war, even a nuclear one.” He singled out Netanyahu’s government as dangerously reckless, saying: “Netanyahu’s level of insanity could lead him to use nuclear weapons against Iran.”
The Venezuelan president urged the leaders of the countries most affected by the conflict to take the initiative and engage in dialogue “for the good of humanity,” warning that Netanyahu’s war threatens to ignite a third nuclear world war.
Th Venezuelan leader highlighted Iran’s historical resilience, noting that since its founding as the core of ancient Persia, it has faced repeated attempts at destruction. He recalled the brutal eight-year war Iran endured against Iraq starting in 1980, which resulted in over a million deaths but ended in Iran’s victory.
According to the President, the conflict is part of a broader Zionist colonial project nurtured by British imperialism, aimed at controlling the region’s vast oil and gas resources. This framing situates the war within a long history of imperialist intervention and resource exploitation.

In addition to the peace initiative, President Maduro reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad, addressing the plight of 252 Venezuelans illegally detained in El Salvador. “To the families of the 252 kidnapped Venezuelans: sooner or later we will bring them back to Venezuela,” he promised.
