On May 27, 2025, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yván Gil vehemently rejected Ecuador’s recent travel advisory warning its citizens against traveling to Venezuela due to alleged risks of arbitrary detentions and lack of due process guarantees.
Gil described the advisory as a “ridiculous” act coming from a government he labeled as “subservient and bootlicking” to the United States, underscoring the political motivations behind Ecuador’s decision.
Venezuela Condemns Ecuador’s Alignment with U.S. Imperialism
The Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility issued the advisory citing “grave risks” for its nationals in Venezuela and recalling Venezuela’s unilateral decision last October 2024 to request the withdrawal of Ecuadorian consular staff, which Ecuador claims hinders assistance to its citizens.
Gil’s response framed the advisory as part of a broader imperialist campaign led by Washington to destabilize Venezuela and isolate it diplomatically. This follows a similar U.S. travel warning earlier, which Caracas countered by advising Venezuelans against traveling to the United States due to systemic human rights violations there.
The text reads: “Hahaha, what a huge ridiculousness coming from a government that’s groveling and bootlicking to the gringos… Stay strong, Ecuador!”
In a recent speech inaugurating the University of the Communes, President Nicolás Maduro expressed solidarity with the Ecuadorian people, condemning what he called the “dark moments” they face under the leadership of Daniel Noboa, whom Maduro denounced as a “usurper” and “fraudulent,” accusing him of serving Colombian drug cartels and Albanian mafias. Maduro expressed confidence that Ecuador’s historic revolutionary spirit, inspired by Bolívar and Sucre, will prevail over these challenges.
Minister Gil also highlighted the hypocrisy of U.S. policies, pointing to the systemic abuses Venezuelan migrants face in the United States, including arbitrary detentions, family separations, and deportations to detention centers in third countries.
He urged Venezuelans in the U.S. to consider leaving due to these violations, framing the U.S. as a violator of human rights while Venezuela defends its sovereignty and the dignity of its people.
Venezuela’s strong condemnation of Ecuador’s travel advisory reveals the deep geopolitical tensions fueled by U.S. interventionism in Latin America. The Bolivarian government continues to assert its sovereignty and denounce imperialist pressures, calling for regional solidarity and resistance against foreign interference.
