teleSUR will always be a profoundly Bolivarian platform in the service of the peoples’ truth, he stated.

On Thursday, during the commemoration of the 242nd anniversary of the birth of Liberator Simon Bolivar and the 20th anniversary of the founding of teleSUR, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil reflected on Bolivar’s role in shaping emancipatory communication for the peoples of Latin America.

During his speech at the Liberator’s Mausoleum in Caracas, Gil noted that one of Bolivar’s most valuable qualities was his ability to communicate not only through his speeches and doctrinal writings, but also through his example and leadership at the head of the armies that fought against Spanish colonialism.

“Bolivar was a communicator in the service of liberation,” Gil said, emphasizing that the South American independence hero created an emancipatory message for all generations and embodied one of the most beautiful liberation struggles known to humanity.

The Venezuelan diplomat also highlighted the historical coincidence of commemorating the birth of the Father of the Nation alongside the anniversary of teleSUR, a multimedia platform he described as the heir to Bolivar’s ideals.

“It is no coincidence that today we also celebrate the birth of teleSUR, because it is and will always be a profoundly Bolivarian platform in the service of the truth of the peoples,” he concluded.

Present at the commemorative event for Bolivar’s birth were also teleSUR President Patricia Villegas and Aleida Guevara, daughter of the legendary revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara.
