Five candidates are vying to become the first governor of the state of Guayana Esequiba.

In this territorial entity, voters will elect one governor, seven members of the Legislative Council, and eight representatives to the National Assembly, Perez said, noting that 88% of the electoral schedule has been completed.
Authorities will open 12 voting centers in Guayana Esequiba, located in the Dalla Costa and San Isidro parishes of Sifontes municipality in Bolivar state. The National Electoral Council has set up 25 polling stations for the vote.
Currently, the electorate in Guayana Esequiba is estimated at 21,403 registered voters—21,183 of whom are Venezuelan citizens and 220 are foreign nationals.
Five candidates are running for the governorship of Guayana Esequiba: Adm. Neil Villamizar, representing organizations aligned with the Bolivarian Revolution; Julio Cesar Pineda, backed by the Ecological Movement; attorney Alexis Duarte, the candidate for Un Nuevo Tiempo and Union y Cambio (UNICA); sociologist Hector Milano, sponsored by the Accion Democratica party; and Armando Cumare, supported by the Arepa Movement.
Venezuelan authorities officially established the state of Guayana Esequiba following a consultative referendum held on Dec. 3, 2023, in which more than 10 million citizens voted in favor of defending the Essequibo region.
“The East was born with our Guayana Esequiba, and we are going to recover it—fully—this Sunday. On May 25, the people will elect for the first time in history a governor, National Assembly deputies, and members of the Legislative Councils. Our will to reclaim the historic territorial rights of Bolivar’s Guayana Esequiba is unbreakable,” President Nicolas Maduro said.
