The session was attended by CNE officials Carlos Quintero, Rosalba Gil and Aime Nogal, as well as technicians and experts from political parties. This audit allows party representatives to verify the security and reliability of the electoral system, ensuring transparency throughout the process. For the audit, 40 stations were set up with operators responsible for monitoring system performance.
“The impressions we’ve received from the technicians and political organizations are that, without a doubt, this audit allows them to verify what we have called the chain of trust,” Quintero said.
During the evaluation, a simulation of the voting process was conducted, examining voting, vote counting, the dissemination of results and voter verification. Additionally, it was confirmed that the cryptographic key used in previous audits matched the one stored in the voting devices.
So far, 85% of the electoral calendar has been carried out on schedule. The CNE has also completed the deployment of electoral materials and voting machines to 15,036 polling stations and nearly 700,000 ballot boxes nationwide.
This background audit is the ninth of the 14 audits planned in the electoral calendar, which includes reviews of the voter registry, machine configuration, vote tallying software, and telecommunications systems.
In Venezuela, electoral audits allow political parties and electoral observers to monitor every stage of the electoral process, with the aim of strengthening trust in the transparency and security of the system.
On May 25, Venezuelans will head to the polls to elect 24 governors, 285 national deputies and 260 members of the state legislative councils across the country.
