The cessation of hostilities must serve as the starting point for a structural and lasting solution, the Bolivarian diplomacy stated.

On Tuesday, Iran and Israel declared a ceasefire after 12 days of hostilities that began with the launching of Israeli missiles against the Persian nation on June 13.

In response to the ceasefire, the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement, which is presented in full below.

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela welcomes with hope and commitment the announced ceasefire and cessation of hostilities following unjustified aggression by Israel and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran, as reported by the involved parties in recent hours.

This ceasefire is a crucial step toward de-escalating tensions that threatened to destabilize all of West Asia. The current crisis was triggered by attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the bombing of nuclear facilities on its soil, which constitutes a grave violation of international law.

Venezuela reaffirms that this cessation of hostilities must serve as the starting point for a structural and lasting solution. As President Nicolas Maduro Moros proposed on June 23, it is urgent to activate a multilateral mechanism to convene a Summit for Peace and Against War in West Asia.

In light of recent developments, the Venezuelan government welcomes the phone conversation between the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Iran’s President, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

Venezuela reiterates the importance of such direct dialogue and a commitment to good neighborliness for the unity of the Muslim world. Venezuela remains steadfast in its commitment to peace, the sovereignty of nations and multilateralism.

Today, as we mark the 204th anniversary of the historic victory in the Battle of Carabobo, we echo the words of the Liberator Simon Bolivar: ‘Peace shall be my harbor, my glory, my reward, my hope, my joy, and all that is precious in the world’.”
