The Bolivarian government called his statements ‘cynical and deeply offensive,’ and criticized his silence on the Gaza genocide.
On Friday, Venezuela rejected the “irresponsible, biased, and deeply politicized” statements made by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, before the UN Human Rights Council.

The Bolivarian government described his remarks as “cynical and deeply offensive,” accusing Türk of remaining “complicitly silent” in the face of “the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people” and the massacres in Lebanon and Syria, where hospitals, schools and innocent civilians have been targeted and human rights massively violated.
“It is offensive that someone who has not uttered a single word about these atrocities now seeks to lecture the Venezuelan people, who have resisted the most severe external aggressions with dignity,” the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry stated.
Venezuela accused Türk of becoming “an operational tool of U.S. imperial interests,” noting that he had even traveled to Washington to receive instructions aimed at protecting and legitimizing Venezuelan “terrorist groups” operating from abroad “with total impunity.” It also claimed Türk was orchestrating campaigns to undermine Venezuela’s democratic institutions, “with no success.”
The text reads, “Venezuela rejects the statements made by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, regarding our country during the presentation of the annual report held in Geneva.”
The Bolivarian government denounced Türk’s “complicit silence” regarding the alleged kidnapping of 252 Venezuelan nationals, who remain in inhumane conditions in Salvadoran concentration camps without due process or contact with their families. “Where is his supposed concern for human rights? Where are his reports and condemnations?” the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry asked.
It also accused Türk of politicizing human rights, asserting that his tenure would go down as one of the most damaging in the history of the Office of the High Commissioner, “comparable only to the disastrous tenure of Luis Almagro at the head of the Organization of American States (OAS), an institution he managed to completely delegitimize.”
“He seeks to undermine the credibility and effectiveness of the Office of the High Commissioner, in complicity with the centers of power that promote wars, economic blockades, and regime change. However, like his sponsors, he has failed,” the Bolivarian diplomacy pointed out.
“Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to true human rights, peace, social justice, and respect for all peoples. And it reiterates its call for the United Nations ro restore its impartiality and humanist vocation, before it is too late,” it added.
